Abstract

The article examines a variant of Argentine antifascism in the interwar period, specifically the antifascist sensitivity of Cordovan Sabattinism. It states that antifascism contributed to the building of Sabattinist identity by appropriating international conflict references. The antifascist struggle was conceived as part of the democratic cause of Radicalism, thus being linked to -and constrained within- the national context. In their role as guardians of democracy and freedoms, Sabattinism granted some “hospitality” to the Communist Party, and antifascist actions were carried out within institutional frameworks. At the same time, the use of transnational references allowed Sabattinism to differentiate itself and discredit its main political opponents, the Democratic Party.
