Abstract

The aim of this article is to study a series of murals destined for spaces inhabited by children and young students and to offer an analysis of their visual narratives during Peronism (1946-1955). This will allow us to analyse and understand the visual dimension of the cultural history of the period. From 1946 onwards, there is evidence of the existence of mural painting that was destined to institutions for children such as Ciudad Infantil and Hogares Escuela -built in different areas of Argentina-, as well as murals in Escuelas Fábrica, educational establishments for young men learning a trade. This type of muralism is based on the notion of the pedagogy of images, that is to say, their capacity to transmit ideas and concepts, as well as the positive impact they would have on the character building of children and young men. Most of these murals have been destroyed and this research was only made possible through the analysis of archival photographs and film material.
